Option Keymap: multiple keyboard mappings

An X Window server knows only one keyboard mapping, which is in effect for all X Window clients. One may change this mapping using the program xmodmap, but the modification is valid for all current and future clients at once. Furthermore, the X Window server resets the keyboard mapping during its reinitialisation.

The option Keymap allows to assign different keyboard mappings to single X Window applications or groups of applications. Thus, for instance, multilingual applications can be used with one X Window server and one keyboard.
